Conformity vs. Morality: Two Words that Describes Today’s Society

Conformity vs. Morality: Two Words that Describes Today’s Society

Let’s face it. Today’s generation (I’m referring to teenage ones) is a complete slob. They tend to say what’s on their mind even if they’re not in the right place or situation, because they have this what we called “Freedom of Expression” mentality. Don’t get me wrong about this mentality guys, what I’m trying to imply is that most people uses this advantage without knowing their limitations. Let’s take a si
tuational scenario as an example.
Imagine this guys:
We have these two girls sitting on a bench in a park, and let’s just say they’re best of friends. Then suddenly, a nerdy-looking girl came along. Suddenly Girl 1 whispered something to Girl 2.
Girl 1: Oh, look at that girl, she’s soooo ugly.
Girl 2:  Yeah you’re f*****n right friend!
Nerdy girl heard their conversation, she ran away, then locked herself inside her room. Now pick the ending that suits best: (Please pick one)
A.      She will feel as if she’s not beautiful enough to exist in this planet called earth and this will lead to depression.
B.      She’ll commit suicide.
Well those two scenarios might seem harsh (but hey, we’re living in a very irrational society.) Whatever situation you chose, you can’t erase the fact that, the nerdy-looking girl will still feel down. F**k “Freedom of Expression”! This mentality is under what Merriam-Webster called CONFORMITY. Conformity is doing everybody else is doing (regardless what is right). In simple words it’s like a TREND. I remember way back 2009 were most people are wearing the ‘Skinny Jeans’. I was a graduating student at that time and all of my friends are going gaga over that type of jeans. And when I got home, my mom surprised me by giving me a pair of violet skinny jeans as a graduation gift. The next day I’ve decided to wear the jeans. Want to know what happened? All of the school body is looking at me. It was as if I’m a celebrity or an angel who fell from heaven.
At first I thought those pair of jeans was the rarest form of jeans that you could find. Well after a day or two I saw people wearing those ‘infamous’ pair of jeans in the mall , public market and even on the sidewalk. After few more months it became very accessible to the market offering more colors (ranges from red to brown to black) giving the wearer a sense of uniqueness. They even tried putting graphical designs but in the end it’s still a f*****g skinny jeans. And because of these scenario, I can say that our society is a conformist.
But I’m not talking about all the people. Yes, I can say we’re a conformist but we still have MORALITY inside of us. We just chose to ignore it, or even worse we chose to kill it. Morality is doing right (all the effi’n time). It’s what pushes you to decide not to throw your empty soft drinks can in a place where an 18’’x20’’ signage board is attached that says, “WAG MAGTAPON NG BASURA DITO!” (in English: Don’t throw your garbage in here!) But still you did it, f**ck your morality. But if you’re one of those good Samaritans then congratulations! You just followed a spineless order (unless it’s a city ordinance, so please follow it :D)
Conformity also exists in social networking sites. Like for example, Facebook is a conformist in a way that, it already enables their users to use ‘hashtags’ (#) which originates from Twitter and Instagram. It also enabled their users to ‘follow’ a certain person, group or even pages ( by the way guys have you heard about Facebook changing their algorithms for pages updates? It sucks big time! Screw you Mark …. I don’t know his full name..but whatever Mark! Screw you!)
Well I’m not a hater (or basher as the new generation calls it) of Facebook. In fact, I almost spend my day chatting with my friends. But I think social networking sites are one of the best examples of conformity ( we’re all netizens and we appreciate internet as examples right guys?)

Well to end this nonsense blah-blah, I just want to say that whatever you are, whether you chose to follow your morality or to be a conformist, IT’S ALRIGHT. You as a special individual makes our society as unique as it can be. Good Morning.
